Originally created as a CD-ROM in 2002 and put online in 2008.

An exploration of the digestive system with lectures in both spoken English and ASL, this resource is an excellent opportunity for interpreters to develop their understanding of anatomy and practice their skills for both academic and clinical settings.

The lectures include a warm-up at the 8th grade level and a technical lecture that is at an undergraduate level.

DeafMDlogo has a variety of videos in American Sign Language as translations of information from the Center for Disease Control.  The videos include both explanations of diseases, tests, and procedures.  It also is developing a database of Deaf-friendly doctors.

It is a resource that is of benefit for both interpreters and patients.

MedlinePlus brings together authoritative information from NLM, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other government agencies and health-related organizations. Preformulated MEDLINE searches are included in MedlinePlus and give easy access to medical journal articles. MedlinePlus also has extensive information about drugs, an illustrated medical encyclopedia, interactive patient tutorials, and latest health news.

Information on Bacteria

The following are potential bacteria that interpreters might encounter.

  • Bacteria: Klebsiella pneumoniae
    From the CDC, information about a bacterium that interpreters in medical settings may encounter.
  • MRSA
    From the Mayo Clinic, information about MRSA – a staph bacterium which is drug-resistant and can be extremely dangerous.
  • Bacteria: c. difficile
    From the Mayo Clinic, information about a bacteria that might be encountered by interpreters working in medical settings.
