St. Catherine University has received federal grant funds to provide interpreter education in the midwest since 1999.
St. Catherine University established the CATIE Center in 2005. The CATIE Center is one of the six centers working in partnership as the National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers (NCIEC).
The CATIE Center at St. Catherine University focuses on:
1. Offering Innovative Programming
- Intensive ASL immersion for interpreting students, including a medical focus;
An intensive Deaf Mentor training program with hands-on experience with immersion students - DeafBlind Weekend Workshop programs – partnering deafblind consumers and interpreters with a focus on empowering deafblind consumers and increasing the skills and knowledge of interpreters
